About Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club (Pawleys Island, SC)

Located in one of the East Coast’s oldest resort areas, Pawleys Plantation Golf Course is a Jack Nicklaus design that features gently rolling greens surrounded by sand bunkers. Stretching over 7,026 yards from the championship tees, this par-72 course provides 4 sets of tees to guarantee players of every skill level a great round of golf.

Laid out in the woods of a Lowcountry forest, the course overlooks expansive salt marshes and features tree-lined fairways dotted with homes and water. With obstacles of one type or another on every hole, the greens here are large with TifEagle Bermuda grass and bunkers around them. And while Pawleys Plantation has its share of tough holes, it’s the par-3 13th hole that has the honor of receiving most contempt from golfers. At 145 yards from the back tees and just 40 from the front, the shot over the marsh to a tiny flat green has been the undoing of more than one golfer.

The challenges of the course can sometimes take a back seat to its beauty, however. Most of the moss-covered oaks that seem to be everywhere are more than 200 years old. The course features a resort-style clubhouse with lounge, full-service pro shop, snack bar, practice facility with range and putting green, lockers, tennis courts and swimming pools. It’s also the home base for the Phil Ritson/Mel Sole Golf School, one of Golf Magazine’s 25 best in America.

Nice trek but fell short of our expectations and the heavy winds made the two signature holes gimmicky.
