About Legends Golf Resort - Heathland Course (Myrtle Beach, SC)

One of the best public courses since opening in 1990, the Tom Doak designed Legends Heathland Golf Course takes its design from the golfing tradition of the British Isles and courses such as Lahinch, Cruden Bay and St. Andrews.

One of Golf Magazine’s “Best Public Golf Courses in South Carolina,” the course has been honored by Golf Magazine as one of the world’s best new resort courses. With little vegetation around the holes, the course offers some of the best views to be found on any golf course.

Its main challenges come from deep bunkers and deep rough that border fairways as well as an almost constant and changing wind. Another challenge can be some of the course’s massive greens, which can pose a significant quandary to players who land on the wrong part. And some of the bunkers guarding those greens are very deep with escape only coming from the best-played shots.

The course has a very large state of the art 42,000-square-foot clubhouse with a pro shop, restaurant and snack bar. There’s also a 36-acre practice area including a one-acre putting green.

We were the second group off at 812 and the starter made us feel rushed by telling us which TEE to play and to keep a good pace and not fall behind. We played the front nine in 1:55 and then had to wait on the tenth tee for 45 minutes as there were five groups ahead of us

Very nice set up. The starters and staff moved a heck of a lot of golfers through the course and smoothly.

Course was fun and straightforward. It was in pretty good shape and was an enjoyable play. It was the easiest of those we played. The only issue was the amount of people on the course. It took about 5 hours and 15 minutes to finish 18 which was a bit annoying waiting in between shots.
